Professional Corner

There is a direct link between learning and behavior.  As more is understood about brain development and different methods to motivate students, teaching methods are adjusted.  For years it has been understood that there is an importance to core academic studies such as math, reading and writing.  Equally known is that the characteristic skills of highly effective leaders also include the ability to negotiate, problem solve, communicate effectively, and resolve conflict.  These skills can also be taught through a social emotional learning program.

Avenue For Change collaborates with Illinois Schools to implement a social emotional learning program concurrently with a strong academic program; thereby where each reinforces the other.

Parent Corner

A characteristic of a high performing school includes active involvement from parents.  Recent studies show that when families are involved in their children's education in positive ways, the children achieve higher grades and test scores, have better attendance at school, complete more homework, and demonstrate more positive attitudes and behavior.  Parent coaching for academic, social, and emotional learning has a tremendous impact on the success of their child in school and in life.  Therefore, it is critical that informational programs are available to parents through the school and the parent organizations.

Avenue For Change collaborates with Illinois Schools to create a system wide approach to reinforce academic, learning, and behavioral skills for all children.
