Avenue For Change provides in
home comprehensive child assessment and family consultation services specializing in early identification
of sensory regulation/dysfunction and brain development of executive function learning and behavior with children BIRTH
TO FIVE YEARS OF AGE .
Skill areas of development are often mistaken for
behavioral issues in the early years which lead to tremendous impact on academics and learning.
DEFINITIONS:
Sensory Regulation: this
is the job of processing touch, movement, sight, and sound. When this system does not work properly, a child has difficulty
paying attention, learning, planning, and may become easily frustrated and react in a situation that appears disporportionate
to the situation at hand.
Executive Function: this is the development
of the frontal lobe section of the brain: to plan and carry out a set of behaviors or actions, as well as the ability to self
regulate and stay focused.
GOALS OF THE PROGRAM:
- provide parents with an early
understanding of sensory systems and the impact that regulation and dysfunction has on learning, social interaction, and behavior
- provide practical everyday activities that strengthen sensory and brain development at an early age
when the brain is developing most rapidly and the neurological system is most mallable
- increase services for early identification and support to prevent misdiagnosis, onset of behavioral issues that
appear out of frustration and negative feedback, may prevent need of formalized therapy services
Why?
The
research is clear. Early Identification and Intervention provides
a foundation to help children succeed in school and in life. The brain - behavior connection is very strong.
Children who enter the school system with unsupported behavioral, emotional, academic and social developmental problems are
at risk for failure in the classroom, with peers, and throughout life. Assessments and consultation are done in the
privacy of your own home and learning environment for the most accurate and thorough results. This method provides
a guide for parents to identify needs, sensory responsiveness, temperament, and preferred learning methods
to maximize support during early learning years.
